Water: People, Planet & Profit
Water is the foundation of life. Not only are our bodies made up of over 60% of water but we require clean, safe drinking water to survive as well as to grow our food and move our waste stream.
During the 20th century, the population in the world grew from 1.65 billion to 6 billion. While the population exploded in the 20th century and continues to still rise, the amount of freshwater on the planet has stayed constant at about 3% of all water on Earth.
Today nearly 700 million people worldwide suffer from water scarcity. And that number is expected to grow to 1.8 billion by 2025.
#DidYouKnow: Sea Levels
- Global sea level rose about 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) in the last century. The rate in the last decade, however, is nearly double that of the last century.
